Re: What happened to the SmartScore 64 demo?

Please be aware that SmartScore 64 now supports both appoggiatura and acciaccatura grace notes. If you recall from your high school music class, appoggiaturas occur on the beat and acciaccaturas occur BEFORE the beat. If you want a grace not to sound before the first note in a measure, you must enter an acciaccatura.
Thank you.

Simply following the conventions of standard musical notation, Mike.

We e-mailed you a sample file so you can hear for yourself the difference between both types of grace notes.

"HopeThis may be so. I've only been singing for 55 years, so I may have missed it. I understand the theory, about leading the beat, or being on the beat. However, I can't hear the difference in SmartScore playback, and I would be interested if anyone else can.

If it's that big of a deal to you, perhaps the playback should reflect this.

Most of us, I suspect, are a lot more concerned that if we put a grace note on the first beat of a measure, we shouldn't have to stop and think about whether it's the "correct" grace note, to get playback.

Why would I put a grace note on the first note, if I didn't want it to play back?"

Question: Do you think about what the correct note is before you enter it?

Just adding my 2 cent's worth here!

Thank you Musitek Tech Support for explaining the method whereby I can get a grace note to sound on the first beat. It works well.

As for the difference between the variations on a grace note, my high school music class was more along the lines of music appreciation and certainly did not get into grace note intricacies!

My final piano teacher was a student of both Isidor Philipp and Arturo Benedetti Michelangeli, and while grace notes are essential to playing much of the repertoire, the terms "appoggiatura" and "acciaccatura" never came up with my teacher. I'm sure these piano playing masters knew the terms, but my teacher and I just called them grace notes. I have no objection to how you have programed them in since they do work. However, I suspect that some users of SmartScore 64 may have little to no classical training, and thus it might be surprising if they had even heard of "grace notes" much less "appoggiatura" and "acciaccatura".

Thanks for a fine product!

Cheers!

Thanks David.
mikey12045 indicated to us that there was no explanation of the difference in the manual and that "grace notes" did not appear in the Index. We will update the manual and include it in an upcoming maintenance release.

Question: Do you think about what the correct note is before you enter it? Musitek Tech Support

Yes, I do, but up to now, I didn't know it made a difference to playback.

Tech Support and I have been in contact about this issue. I was going to update the situation this morning, but they beat me to it.

I now appreciate the difference between slashed and unslashed grace note, and I will try to use them correctly in the future.

Thanks for the help.
