Severe Virus warning when downloading SmartScrX2SE.msi (Musitek assures no infection and Installed!)

I am not sure what to do. Purchased Songbook edition of SmartScore. Downloaded with and without added sounds directly from SmartScore download page. Both files were identified as having a severe viral infection by WIN10 and subsequently blocked.

the demo download and install worked fine.

what do I do with this!!??

thanks,
b

I suspect it’s fine, and you should just turn off your virus checker while you download.

But if you would rather not take the chance, send an email directly to tech support at [email protected]

They do monitor this forum, but not as often as we might hope, so an email is better.

Thanks for the reply. Looking up the named 'viruses' they are GoCandy and AskToolbar. Seems that AskToolbar is an annoying toolbar that is added to Chrome/Explorer and GoCandy is a subroutine for offering alternative install paths. And I believe everything I read on the Internet!

I did send off an email to musitek, so I will see what they say.
Cheers.

Here is the response I received from Musitek:
'SmartScore and its installer do not contain any malware or viruses. SmartScore has passed digital certification by both Microsoft and Apple.
What you encountered is considered a “false positive”. It’s possible you encountered (and possibly removed) CandyOpen and/or AskToolbar viruses in the past. Your system may still recognize the threat.
Nonetheless, please be content that SmartScore is free of any infection.'

I do remember the 'AskToolBar' being installed many years ago with some other registry cleaning program. But that was probably under WIN7. I have had WIN10 for several years, and why it would all of a sudden show up now directly linked to the install of SmartScore, I have no idea.

Any way, I did continue with the install of SmartScore which went further without incident. NO evidence of 'AskToolBar' or GoCandy anywhere.

Onward!

@balinas: Sorry to intrude. I'm on the Runboard Staff Team, and I check out newbies to see that they've gotten to where they want to go once they've joined. So, I was looking in to see that you didn't get lost and read your posts.

Do you have Malwarebytes on your computer? They have a free download, and they're a nice backup to have with your antivirus program. They also have a free adware cleaner as well. I used the cleaner on a friend's computer because it had far more unwanted adware, spyware, potentially unwanted programs (PUPs), and browser hijackers than her antivirus could handle.

Malwarebytes Products:

Malwarebytes AdwCleaner:

And welcome to Runboard.
