PartNames

1. When I choose the instrument names in the system manager I want to be able to distinguish e.g. between A & Bb Clarinets. This can be achieved by simply editing the part names. In a playback situation I must be able to distinguish between A and Bb sounds. The Aria Player only appears to offer Bb Clarinet sounds.

2. I upgraded from the piano version to the X2 pro version. During the installation I chose not to install the Garritan sounds and Aria Player because I believed them to be already installed on my computer. Was that a mistake and have I consequently missed full playback functionality (A, Eb, Base Clarinet sounds).

3. Finally, the manual depicts an button next to the VST button (((.))) which I do not have.

Hoping somebody out there has the energy to answer my newbie queries.

The Garritan sounds provided with SS are not all the instruments and tend to be the more popular ones. Even the Garritan sounds provided with Finale do not have an A clarinet as a separate instrument but it does have a bass clarinet and a Eb clarinet.

I believe you can use the Bb clarinet sound loaded into the Aria player and the output transposition provided by SS for the A clarinet (-3) will give you the clarinet sound in the correct concert pitch. The same for the bass clarinet (-14). These transpositions and setting can be viewed on the Full Mixer which is on the left of the VST button.

The button to the right of the VST button is a Save as XML and Open in Finale button and is duplicated under File. I imagine if you don't have Finale on your computer then it isn't shown since it would be useless.

Re: PartNames

I omitted to say that I am running under Windows 10 64 bits.
As mentioned above, I did not install Garritan sounds with my upgrade to X2 Pro and now following recognition the VST button is inaccessible (gray) as is the Finale button. The package is in my start menu and can be openned there, however, I appear to have two versions under Garritan Aria Player namely Garritan Aria and Garritan Ariax64.
Should I delete Garritan Aria and/or reinstall SmartScore to get the VST button working?

Re: PartNames

In addition to the Garritan player being used through the VST linkage in SS, it is also available as a standalone player and I think these are what you are seeing - the 32bit and 64 bit versions.

Under Playback on the SS main screen you should have within MIDI Devices the VST Plugins selected, not the mapper or wavetable synth.

Also under Playback there should be the DLL for the VST linkage. On my Win 10 X64 Pro, it is located at C:Program FilesGarritanARIA PlayerVSTARIA Player VST_x86 . Why it is the x86 one instead of the 64 bit one, I don't know. Having these enable/present should allow the VST button to work (hopefully).

If this doesn't do it, the best thing might be to uninstall SS and Garritan and do a complete reinstall of the package. My understanding is that any of the SS versions that provide the Garritan sounds have all of the SmartScore set so I don't think that is the problem although I have to admit I am not 100% sure about that.

If you don't have Finale installed then you may not get that button showing although I think it may be present but inoperable. I do have Finale so I can't say for sure. If you don't have Finale it is useless anyway and in fact, I usually just create the XML file and open it from within Finale or using the command under the SS File item.
