2 stave recognition error
quote: I am registered for the x2 piano edition. when I recognize some piano pieces, i have an error that my program only recognize 2 staves? this is a piano 2 stave pdf?!
this does not happen for all pages, only for a few. can you help me?
If the music you scanned in contained only 2 staff lines per system (e.g. Piano right and Piano left hands), then Piano Edition will handle it fine.
The error you encountered complaining that your score has more than 2 staves means that some artifact, probably a light leak from the side of the scanner, created a black area enough to touch two or more systems along the left hand bracket forming one large “false” system as a result of two or more systems becoming joined. SmartScore expects to see clear white space between every system.
Solution: Open your TIFF file in SmartScore Piano Edition. Zoom out so you see the entire page. Use the green “Page forward” button until you find a page that shows a black blob (light leak) along the left-hand side. If the blob spans between two or more systems, touching the connecting bracket, then do the following:
• Push the dotted rectangle button in the lower toolbar (Selector tool: activated also with the “O” key)
• Click-drag a box inside the blob that “connects” two systems.
• Hit the “Delete” key
• Once you have a clear white space between systems, you’re good to go.
• Check the remainder of the page for similar blobs that touch 2 or more systems.
• Using the green Page Forward button, browse the remaining pages of your image file for similar artifacts and if so, fix them as described above.
Hope this helps.

Re: 2 stave recognition error
Is there anything that might make the program think there is an extra staff such as a short ossia or an accompanying instrument or vocal line?
I don't know how easy it would be to confuse the staff count with text or other items. If you have a page that fails have a close look at it and see where it might differ from a typical, working page. If there are non-music items such as symbols or text or whatever that might be confusing the recognition try removing them.
If you don't have a pdf editor make a print-out and then scan it in and use the image-editor to make any alterations to see if it fixes the problem.

Re: 2 stave recognition error
I'm sorry, but I don't understand. Could you try to explain in more detail? Or could you post a screen shot of what you are seeing?
