Sorry you're having difficulties, but honestly, there is a bit of a learning curve, and a lot of that has to do with SSX's terminology. In this regard, I highly recommend that if you haven't already, download the "Using SmartScoreX" PDF manual (right from the Help menu), and spend some time reading through it. It really will pay off in the long run, just to get familiar with the "names" SSX uses for its various elements--some are not that intuitive. I think there are a couple of things at play in your current issue. First is the "score" part. Each "staff" in a "system" is a "part" in the overall score. Each "part" has up to four "voices", which are the sounds produced by each note in that voice. Each voice has an associated "instrument" defining the MIDI patch used to sound the note. Each "voice" in each "part" has it's own midi channel. Now, you may assign the same "instrument" to all the "voices" in that "part" (like the default "Grand Piano" (General Midi Bank 1, Program 1) for a "Right" (upper staff) or "Left" (lower staff) for a piano grand staff. Or, you can assign different instruments to the "voices" as you might want in an SATB vocal staff. A primary reason for separate "voices" with the same "instrument" is to permit multi-timbral playback of counterpunctual "lines" (voices) in the part--each "voice" in SSX has to be rhythmically consistent within every measure. Now a second aspect exists when using a midi device that uses some other set of "instruments" than General Midi (which are specifically assigned by the standard), like some proprietary synthesizers/keyboards or VSTi instruments like the Aria Player Garritan sounds that come with SSX2. For those, there has to be a "map" that associates the bank and program assignments with specific sounds from the instrument's library. This is where I lose the ability to provide really specific commentary: I don't have SSX2--but I have used SSX with the Garritan Personal Orchestra and Jazz and Big Band instruments, as well as my hardware Alesis QSR, QS6.1, and QS8.1, even with custom patches I created from my own sounds for them. So there are two separate "set-up" steps required: the first to define that mapping (which is what I presume you have done) and the second defining the associations between those patch mappings and the specific voices assigned to each part in your score. You do that second part using the System Manager, as ZootS advised in your other recent post. Perhaps I've misread what you've already told us...I often do. If so, please try to give us a little more information about what specific issues you're dealing with. It can often also help if you include some information about your workstation setup (platform [PC/Mac] Operating System and SSX edition and version) in your forum signature. Stick with it, it takes some learning--we'll help you get going.nondisclosed_email@example.com (tlwebb)Thu, 01 Jun 2017 06:13:56 +0000 Aria soundhttps://bsmartscoreusertechresources.runboard.com/p214877,from=rss#post214877https://bsmartscoreusertechresources.runboard.com/p214877,from=rss#post214877In the playback mode, I've loaded the instruments into the smart score player and aria and it still sounds ridiculous. What am I missing? nondisclosed_email@example.com (Note Maker)Wed, 31 May 2017 20:50:55 +0000
