SmartScore crashes when exporting XML to Finale

Hello,

After not using SmartScore for a couple of years I just downloaded and reinstalled Songbook Edition X [sign in to see URL]. I am on a MacBook Pro using Yosemite [sign in to see URL] as OS.

I scanned a page from a piano/vocal book this afternoon, opened it up in SmartScore took out the chord symbols, saved it and chose the option to Save as Music XML and Open in Finale. Bingo, it worked nicely, I saw it in Finale saved it and started to edit.

Now I tried to scan page 2 this is where the trouble starts.

Same scan settings on the Canon MX922. The scan works, I open it in SmartScore and deleted the lyrics and saved it. Then I chose Save as Music XML and Open in Finale. IT CRASHES every time!

I've tried opening, closing, saving, quitting and starting, scanning as TIFF, scanning as PDF, over a dozen times now and every time the exact same thing happens.

Save as XML and Open in Finale crashes. Can anyone help? I was doing a project for my wife and I told her that I could get in done in no time now that I have SmartScore - and look what I did for page 1!

Please if anyone has an idea why this is happening clue me in. Not sure what else to do.

Thanks in advance, Jerry

Re: SmartScore crashes when exporting XML to Finale

EDIT
If I'm reading your post correctly, I think you've posted in the wrong forum category. This one Music-to-XML is for a separate application named "Music-to-XML". Songbook is an Edition of SmartScoreX. That aside though...

I'm not sure that this is going to help at all, because I don't have your edition and there may be other "oddities" of my workstation setup to complicate things.

But the first thing that jumps out at me is that it seems you're trying to recognize two pages of a single score separately. I as I understand things, SSX uses the first page to establish basic structural and formating characteristics for the score. I can't think of how it might handle a scan of a second page that may not have all of the clef, key signature, bracketing, etc info.

I can maybe understand that maybe you can only scan one page of your score at a time. In this case, try scanning all of the pages (preferably into the same directory!!). Then open the first page, and hit the Recognition button in the left hand column. There, use the "Add Files to List" button in the right hand pane of the resulting Begin Recognition dialog box to add the scans of the remaining pages. Choose the appropriate Recognition Options in the left hand pane the hit the Begin Recognition button to start the process.

Let us know if this solves the issue, or give us some feedback about what happened at that point if it doesn't.
