Is this an issue with one file or all files?
Please attach the .TIF and .ENF files to e-mail to tech@musitek.com

Was this issue ever resolved? And if so, what was the solution?

I'm having the same issue with SSX2Pro 10.5.8 on a Mac.Tech support says the file works on their system. No crash.

Any insight pointing to a solution would be appreciated.

Cheers

What’s the Mac OS? SSX won’t run on Big Sur. You would need to upgrade to SS64.

Re: SmartscoreX2Pro crash while hitting playback

Thank you for responding.

Mac Pro, 3,1 (early 2008) 2.8 GHz 8-core with 18 GB RAM.
OSX 10.11.6 El Capitan.

Would have to upgrade to 10.13 High Sierra to run SS64. Which would require an OS patch to upgrade this Mac further than 10.11.

Might consider doing it in the future but I don't believe that is the issue in this case. SSX2Pro is running fine in other respects as far as I can tell.

Do you know what underlying files SSX2 uses at launch?

I found com.Musitek.SmartScore.plist in the Preferences library. Any more that you know of?

Thanks again.

If you're on El Capitan, stick with SSX Pro.

Have you tried setting up a new user on your Mac? This isn't a fix; but it will tell you if there is something in your regular user account that is causing the crash.

Have you asked tech support if trashing the plist might help?

Follow-up:

There's a free uninstall utility for Mac called AppCleaner. To use it, you simply drop any application onto it's open interface, and the software searches your system to find all related files, such as preference lists, crash reports, logs and so on.

You can then examine each file, and remove any or all of them to do a complete deinstall.

AppCleaner showed no fewer than 16 files related to SSX2Pro. I uninstalled it, along with the Garritan sounds and Aria player.

Next, I deleted all the relevant folders, and performed full system maintenance on my Mac using an app called Onyx, also free. That was followed by zapping the PRAM, resetting the SMC chip, and changing permissions on said file folders.

I then did a clean reinstall of SSX2 and the Garritan sounds and Aria player. All to little avail. SSX2 runs a little snappier. I can load sounds or presets into Aria, inside or outside of SS and play them from my MIDI keyboard. However, pressing play with the enf file loaded still causes the program to crash.

I'm not sure what to try next. The Garritan sounds install is a bit clunky. Maybe I'm doing something wrong there.

The editing features of SSX2Pro work fine. So I'm forging ahead with some of the work I intended. I can export Music XML files and play them in my notation software. Possibly raw MIDI files as well, which might be useful during an editing project. I can't load any other AU instruments. Aria is the only option, which makes no sense.

Enough said. If anyone can think of something I'm overlooking please let me know. I'd especially like to hear from some of you Mac experts out there.

Thanks for reading.

Kind regards.

Hey mikey,

Just read your newest post. I might try that. As you say, just to see if something in the current configuration is conflicting.

I've tried that trick before, with no new information forthcoming. But it's worth a shot.

Cheers

Does your Mac generate a crash log? You might want to send that in.
