“An unnamed file contains an incorrect path” error

If you encounter the message, “An unnamed file contains an incorrect path”, here is the reason and the workaround.

The error is a Windows, not SmartScore message. The error is occurring because a folder Windows once used to store temporary files no longer exists. This error is very rare, but it can occur. The most likely scenario is that some external device (e.g. thumb drive, external back up drive) was connected to your computer during installation of SmartScore and has since been removed. There are several workarounds, some easy, some a bit tricky.

Fix #1
- Close SmartScore. If possible, re-connect all USB devices that were present when you first installed SmartScore.
- Open SmartScore. Test by recognizing the .tif file that previously failed.
NOTE: If recognition works, you will need to keep that drive permanently connected. Otherwise, perform Delete SmartScore reg keys from the command line below.

Fix #2
- Close SmartScore. Disconnect any remote USB drives (thumb drives, external dard drives, etc.).
- Go to “My Computer” and search your root directory for the folder, C:Temp. If it does not exist, create a new directory called “Temp”.
- Open SmartScore. Test by recognizing the .tif file that previously failed.

Fix #3
The following step will definitely fix the problem. If you are unfamiliar with editing in the Windows command line, we suggest that it be performed by someone who is qualified.

Deleting SmartScore reg keys from the command line:

- Close SmartScore.
- Uninstall SmartScore from Control Panel > Programs and Features.
- Open the Command Prompt window by clicking the Start button
- Click All Programs, click Accessories, and then click Command Prompt.
- At the C: prompt, type each of the following commands followed by a Return:

reg delete HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/Musitek key

reg delete HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/Wow6432Node/Musitek key

reg delete HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/Musitek key

- Exit the command line environment and return to the desktop.

- Disconnect any remote USB drives (thumb drives, external dard drives, etc.).

- Reinstall SmartScore. Test by recognizing the .tif file that previously failed.

IMPORTANT NOTE:
This is a Windows and not a SmartScore issue. Microsoft has confirmed that this is a bug in some of its Microsoft products.

Good luck.

Re: “An unnamed file contains an incorrect path” error

Dear Administrator
I got an external win and I saved the scanned files to there. When I tried to recognize them, it showed me the warning. I did the process you adviced, vainly. I tried to put the scanned files to a folder on the C internal winchester - then the same warning occured.
Please help me.
Best wishes
Istvan

Now I scanned the score directly to "C", same result. Don't work!

The Musitek staff do not visit this forum very often. I suggest you open an official support request with them since you have tried the fixes provided.

I'm getting this error when trying to recognize scans while running SmartScore as a mortal user, i.e., not an administrator. I can successfully recognize if I do a "Run As" or actually log in as administrator.

For the record, plugging in USB drives had no effect.

Hope this helps.
