I reported what I found. I redid the test again and found the same thing again. I still use SmartScore and since I bought a full copy of PhotoScore and ran even more extensive tests, I think I'm in a position to judge. SmartScore is the best available product - clearly - but it remains a long way from perfect. PhotoScore is something of a nightmare. It is totally unsuitable for my projects. But there are a number of well known weaknesses in SmartScore that went unaddressed in the new upgrade. Most of these areas for improvement have been long noted in the Suggestions thread. Let me just mention one or two. SmartScore does text OCR but only in English. Most text OCR programs allow you to use other languages. Many music lyrics are in German, French or Italian. SmartScore never gets the accents right so everything has to be re-entered from scratch. I know they could add this feature - they are very good software developers. I suspect that the whole area is just too small to justify the expense. Not enough customers. I'm in fact working hard to expand their user base. I have hundreds of files published in their proprietary ENF file format. I'm trying to give users a reason to adopt the Musitek format through relevant content. After my experience with PhotoScore I doubt if they will be in business much longer. This probably means that Musitek's sales will increase but monopolies have little reason to invest in new developments either. It will take me six months to a year to complete Carmen. A few changes to SmartScore could cut that time in half. nondisclosed_email@example.com (Agorante)Fri, 12 Apr 2013 11:53:10 +0000 Re: SmartscoreX2 Brilliant!https://bsmartscoreusertechresources.runboard.com/p212724,from=rss#post212724https://bsmartscoreusertechresources.runboard.com/p212724,from=rss#post212724Regarding improved recognition accuracy: There has been some discussion already regarding the test(s) made by Agorante where he sees no improved recognition in X2. With one or two scans, this could be quite possible since the Prodigy Engine kicks in ONLY when a symbols is flagged as "potentially false" or a "false positive". This will occur less on well printed scores (with a relatively low error rate to begin with). The real benefit of Prodigy becomes apparent with poorly-printed scores, jazz fonts, scores with many changes of key and time signatures, tuplets, weak barlines and other symbols that were less friendly to previous versions of SmartScore. To be a fair comparison, more rigorous testing should be done on a wider range of scores. quote:Agorante wrote: In my tests the new version was slightly less accurate in recognition. It's amazing to hear how what once was just a piece of paper with notes on it come to life as if you had popped a CD into the stereo. The demo does not come with the virtual instrument player but have faith with the product purchase as it will amaze you. nondisclosed_email@example.com (mhanes)Tue, 08 Jan 2013 06:03:11 +0000
