posticon Mix man voice with SmartScore

I just install SmartScore Songbook, Want to know how to mix human voice with playback to generate .wav or .mp3 file.
I want to use this for choir practice. All members record their voice and mix them all together with SmartScore playback.

This isn't something I'm familiar with but I don't think SmartScore is the tool for getting your final result. It is made to scan printed music and produce a music notation file that can be edited. It really doesn't deal with recorded voices or music that isn't notated.

You could scan your printed music to make a playable .wav or MP3 of the arrangement. The next step would be to combine it with the tracks your choir members recorded and this would be better done in a program that handles this type of music, IMO. A Digital Audio Workstation (DAW) program would do it and there is a free one, REAPER, available but it is loaded with features and would take some time to learn. A simpler approach maybe would be to use a free sound-editing program like AUDACITY to combine and align the tracks.

This is the way I see your request but perhaps somebody with more knowledge on the subject can give you good advice.

Good luck.

Zoots is right; SSP really isn't the tool.

I make part-predominant learning tracks for my choir by using the piano sound - not oos or ahs. I mix them by setting the desired track to full volume, panned to right or left, and the other parts to about half volume panned to the other side. Repeat for each voice part.

They are on their own for lyrics.

Thank you for your reply. I will try the software you mentioned.

Now I have an issue for the .WAV file generated. There is no space at the beginning for singer to prepare. Do you think SmartScore has this function to leave 3 seconds gap before the music start? Some Karaoke has the jumping ball jumps 3 times before it jump onto the lyrics.

Thank you.

Add some new measures by inserting barlines at the beginning. You can also put some notes in these new measures so the vocalist will hear them as an indication of the tempo. If the piece was 4/4 I'd put in 4 quarter notes of same pitch per measure. You could put in a measure of 2 half notes followed by a measure of 4 quarter notes for the 1- 2-, 1,2,3,4 beat. DO not insert the blank measures until you have done all of the corrections of your scan or you will get the SS notation file out of sync with the image file above it which makes checking more difficult.

If you are using a sound editing program like Audacity you can also insert blank space at the beginning of the piece (and elsewhere for that matter).

I'm thinking maybe I can play from the last measure, then the vocalist will be prepared. I go through the manual, seem Punch In is related with this.
But I can't open the Measure Settings window to punch in. When I double click measure number in Piano Roll, System Settings will show up.

I never use the MIDI stuff other than for a straight-forward playback but I was intrigued by your possible solution. Unfortunately, I couldn't get the Measure Settings box to pop-up either with some quick attempts.

Re: Mix man voice with SmartScore

How about just sending them a file of the music? In Windows 10 I just open Voice Recorder, attach a short jumper between the headphone output and microphone input (both on front panel of my computer), then click record on Voice Recorder and Play on SmartScore. Stop the voice recorder when the playback is done. You might experiment a bit with Smartscore volume and/or Voice Recorder input to get a good volume.

If you want to edit the file (usually trimming blank time before and after the recording) before you send, I use Audacity, a free program. You can also use it to trim down the file size too - even 1/5 or 1/6 of the original file size gives music plenty good enough to practice with.

They should be able to hook a headset to their computer's or Smartphone's headset output, and hook a microphone to their computer's microphone input, then start the Voice Recorder, then start the playback of the file you sent them, and start singing into the microphone to the music they hear. I have prepared many part-dominant files for our church choir to use, and practice it myself this way (only recording myself if I want to critique my singing).
